Star Blazers #1
SCORE: 71
I had to purchase Star Blazers #1 online since I was unable to find a
copy of it locally. Which meant Star Blazers #1 cost me much more than
the other issues of this comic book I purchased. Star Blazers #1 does
something the Star Blazers #0 version did as well. We get plenty of
recap from the television show. If I was into the television show and
wanted to get the comic I would hope for new material. It feels lazy on
the writers part.
There will be spoilers in this review. Star Blazers #1 takes us along
with the leader Desslok. He receives a message from Star Force and it
makes him remember the past. Desslok also must deal with what to do now
that the war is done. What course of action will he take? We get all of
this recap before we finally get to that answer. The answer is actually
very predictable. They must find a new home since their old home Gamilon
is gone.
The issues families can have with Star Blazers #1 are lack of attire,
violence, blood, and more. Star Blazers #1 teaches that war is bad.
Which is a strange thing for someone in a military force to say. Star
Blazers #1 starts with a welcome back, twenty-four pages of content,
special article section, and then some advertisements. The art is
definitely from that era. The front cover shows an interesting point in
this comic book.
The thing that beat Desslok was love. He saw love from his opponent and
realized he was all alone. He could not match their resolve since they
had love. So Desslok stood down and let them win that battle. That wound
up making him and his opponent Derek Wildstar on friendly terms. Sort of
strange they fought all those battles and wound up becoming friends. I
could see where they would respect one another.
There are other recap points shown in Star Blazers #1. I have not seen
Star Blazer in such a long time that the recaps in Star Blazers #1 did
not mean much to me. I did not recall them since I last saw them thirty
to forty years ago. Part of me enjoyed the recaps to get a better idea
what happened. I just wish so many pages had not been spent on recapping
in Star Blazers #1 like it was in the previous issue. I hope this is not
a pattern for this series.
