Star Blazers #3

After I get through the new comics of the month I start to dig into my pile of older comic books. Star Blazers #3 was one that sat in the pile until its number came up. I am not sure if I have any more comic books in this series after this one or not. Star Blazers #3 is the second part of The New Voyage storyline. That storyline is supposed to be four parts. There are three different groups in Star Blazers #3. There will be spoilers in this review.

There are humans, Gamilons, and The Dark Nebula Empire in Star Blazers #3. The most interesting thing in Star Blazers #3 to me is the planet Iscandar is warping through space. A whole planet winds up traversing through space at really high speeds. The general from the Dark Nebula Empire is under orders to get the ore they need. So he goes chasing after Iscandar. The Gamilons contact Earth for assistance as they are trying to enact a rescue mission.

There is some violent content within Star Blazers #3. Space ships are shooting one another. There is also a training mission against asteroids in Star Blazers #3 too. There are two trainee pilots who almost got hurt out on the asteroid training mission. Those two pilots are punished by having to jog around the ship in only their underwear. They earn jeers from their crewmates. A pretty humiliating thing to be running around close to naked.

The back of the front cover has the column: "From the Captain's Desk." There are twenty-four pages of content within Star Blazers #3. After that we get the special article section. There are a couple of advertisements at the end of Star Blazers #3. The VHS tapes for sale are quite a trip down memory lane if you know what I mean. I like how Star Blazers #3 encourages people to be humble. Sakamoto is a bit too arrogant in Star Blazers #3.

This is the first Star Blazers comic book I have actually enjoyed. The story felt like the show and there was not all this recap. I am still confused as to how a planet can warp through space. I get the ships chasing after it. Thankfully the humans arrive at the very end of Star Blazers #3. They are there to turn this battle around and save their Gamilon friends. At least that is what I hope happens in this comic book series going forward.
