Star Trek #1

I have seen different Star Trek comic books at our local comic book stores. I noticed Star Trek #1 and thought: "hey I could get in on the ground floor of this one and see where it goes." Thus far Star Trek #1 did not impress me. I am thankful I had the money to purchase and review Star Trek #1. This comic book costs $4.99. It is a dollar more than many of the other comic books and it has some more pages.

Please be aware there will be spoilers in this review. Star Trek #1 starts out with Captain Sisko being with the wormhole aliens. The ones the Bajorans worship as deities. There are plenty of Star Trek references within Star Trek #1. Since I have not finished all of Star Trek Deep Space Nine the television show there are things in Star Trek #1 that I did not know about. In essence some spoilers.

Captain Sisko comes back to normal space and time to save these wormhole aliens. He meets with a variety of different Star Trek characters like Keera and Captain Picard. Commander Data comes along as his first officer. They have Scotty as their engineer, and Tom Paris as their navigator. Dr Crusher clears him for command in Star Trek #1. Star Trek #1 felt like it was throwing together different Star Trek characters. I did not feel much cohesion in the team in Star Trek #1.

The issues families can have with Star Trek #1 is lack of attire, violence, false gods, and more. Star Trek #1 teaches all of these different aliens are gods. Star Trek #1 is really heavy handed with this as well. I am not sure why it was done but it is very noticeable. There is a character that attacks the gender role of the ship being female in Star Trek #1. There are ads throughout Star Trek #1. The U.S.S. Theseus is the ship that Captain Sisko commands in Star Trek #1.

The crew of the U.S.S. Theseus wind up in this nebula to find all these crystalline entities. They witness their destruction by a ship they cannot identify. This supposedly kills the wormhole aliens in Star Trek #1. I am guessing that they will try and hunt down the killer in future issues of this comic book. The front cover of the next issue shows Worf. So I am guessing there will more cameo appearances going forward.
