Star Trek #8
SCORE: 68
I am glad I stuck with this comic book this long. Star Trek #8 is
starting to show a bit of promise. There are two main storylines that
happen throughout Star Trek #8. I will get into that in just a little
bit. Star Trek #8 starts with recap and credits on the back side of the
front cover. There are twenty-two pages of comic book content within
Star Trek #8. After that content we get a sneak peak at one of the
covers of the next issue, the alternate covers, and then some
advertisements.
There will be spoilers in this review. The two main storylines with Star
Trek #8 are the trial of Benjamin Sisko as a war criminal on Cardassia
Prime and the crew of the U.S.S. Theseus go into a dangerous area of
space called Tong Peak Nebula. That nebula is also called the grave of
the prophets. It does not sound like a nice place to do. If you use a
warp engine in that area you ship will explode. The crew must find
another way in.
The issues families can have with Star Trek #8 are violence, dead
bodies, mild language, false gods, and more. Captain Sisko decides to
stay for his trial. Star Fleet could easily spring him. He feels he must
face up to Cardassia for what he did during the Dominion War. Cardassia
Prime paid the price for rebelling against the Dominion and siding with
Captain Sisko. I have not seen that part of the television show so I
will take the comic books word for it.
Garak is the advocate for Captain Sisko in Star Trek #8. The writers did
a good job bringing over his personality and humor in Star Trek #8.
Garak as always an interesting character in the Star Trek Deep Space
Nine television show. Quark was as well. Sadly this comic book series
has not done Quark many favors. Data takes over as Captain of the U.S.S.
Theseus in Star Trek #8. Data deploys solar sails thanks to the advice
of Jake Sisko.
The shocking end of Star Trek #8 is they find a group of Cardassians
that call themselves the Red Path. I have no idea what that is supposed
to me. It looks like they have Klingon weapons though. I suspect they
may be some group of warriors. I will have to keep reading to find out.
The intrigue and story telling has definitely improved in Star Trek #8.
I wonder if the away team will find the orbs. Did they really stay
there?
