Starcadia Quest #1
SCORE: 63
As we have been taking trips to our local comic books stores I
noticed the first three issues of Starcadia Quest had been hanging
around in the youth section. I should have taken that as a sign. If
something is sitting on the shelves there may be a reason for that. I
bought the first three issues. I have now worked Starcadia Quest #1
through my pile into the position of reading and reviewing. I like to
give a series five issues to see if I will like it or not. I already
dislike this series after reading Starcadia Quest #1.
Please be aware there will be spoilers in this review. I had such
trouble reading Starcadia Quest #1. The colors and art is fine. The
dialogue and writing just hurt to read for some reason. The trope being
used are as bad the short squat characters. If I were reading a Final
Fantasy through Final Fantasy IV then maybe the squat characters would
work for me. They just don't in Starcadia Quest #1. The whole science
fiction space theme is interesting. There is too much left out about
this universe.
I barely have a clue what is going on in this place. There are F.A.Q.s
that are teams that take on missions. F.A.Q. stands for Freelance
Adventuring Crew. This fifteen year old kid and his hacker friend want
to go do this job. As police bots (Data Guardians) try and arrest Digits
for her hacking they wind up leaving with Nixie O'Fix. The main
character is Starkid by the way. There are plenty of references to other
franchises in Starcadia Quest #1.
In a lot of ways Starcadia Quest #1 feels like a lame attempt to rip-off
the Guardians of the Galaxy. There is some violent content within
Starcadia Quest #1. I did some research and there is a board game of
Starcadia Quest. Which came from Arcadia Quest. I had heard of neither
before reading this comic book. There are some people in PR and
Marketing slipping if a media outlet as large of Family Friendly Gaming
had never heard of them before.
Most of Starcadia Quest #1 takes place in some Starbucks rip-off coffee
shop. There are things like three misdemeanors and you are arrested in
Starcadia Quest #1. You must also protect your private information.
Starcadia Quest #1 contains sixteen pages of content, next month,
challenges for the game (or maybe an app), and then some advertisements.
The thick paper makes Starcadia Quest #1 feel bigger than it actually
is.
