Batman Beyond #1

I was at one of the local comic book stores recently and came across Batman Beyond #1. I got really excited. A new Batman Beyond series done in the old style of the animated show. It also said there are going to six issues in this series. How cool is that? My bubble got burst pretty quickly. I was talking to the gentleman at the front about this series and wanting to add it to my pulls. Then came the bad news.

Batman Beyond #1 is a reprint from the 1999 series. DC Comics is only reprinting this one right now. Why would they do that? Do they expect us to go looking for the other five in the used bins and online? Why get us all excited about this series and only reprint the first one? I am so baffled by the logic here. Maybe someone in Family Friendly Gaming Universe can explain this to me. Or maybe someone over at DC Comics can explain it to me.

There are twenty-two pages of comic book content within Batman Beyond #1. Advertisements can be found all throughout this comic book. The ads are from 1999 as well. So are the letters contained within Batman Beyond #1. I really enjoyed seeing the old advertisements and whatnot in Batman Beyond #1. There is even a picture of the front cover of the next issue in this six part series on Batman Beyond.

There will be spoilers in this review. A lot of Batman Beyond #1 is the beginnings of Batman Beyond. We run across an old Batman that has to use a gun to survive a battle. It is obviously time for him to retire. We also meet Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond #1. Terry and Bruce Wayne meet in Batman Beyond #1 thanks to the Jokers attacking Terry. Bruce needs some help and Terry finds the Batcave.

The issues families can have with Batman Beyond #1 are violence, blood, lack of attire, and more. The blood and lack of attire are actually pretty light within Batman Beyond #1. I would love to read the rest of this series. I do not know if I will think about looking for the rest of these comic books in the future. I already have a rather substantial pile awaiting my attention. I hope to get caught up in the next year or two.
