Nex Playground

Nex reached out to Family Friendly Gaming and asked if we would be willing to do a review of the Nex Playground. I checked it out, and decided it was something that was worth our time to invest in. There will be a short released of an unboxing of this device at some point. I do not know if it will come out before or after this review. I may be an emperor but that does not mean I have an exact schedule on everything.

This cute little device is in the shape of a small cube. The upper left quadrant is yellow with a camera. The rest of the top is a nice shade of blue. The bottom is white. There is a power plug, and a plug for a HDMI cable. I would recommend that ya'll use that HDMI cable. We ran into issues using our own HDMI cable in testing. Which is odd because those cables work with the PS5 and Xbox Series X. It is also recommended that the TV be put in Game Mode if you have one.

Their support personnel were very helpful. Nex Playground can be purchased for just under two hundred dollars. There are some free games that come with Nex Playground. You will most likely want to invest in either a quarterly or yearly pass to be able to keep playing all the games you like. I am not clear on the amount of memory Nex Playground has. I also do not know how many different games you can keep on the system at anytime. The annual pass is $89, and the quarterly pass is $49.

Ya'll know me, I am big in the pay one time, and the physical copy movement. I know a lot of companies have gone to that model. Maybe we should as well. To keep your review on our site you must pay us so much money every year. Somehow I doubt those that practice annual passes would want to pay us for the same services. The game downloads took a bit of time. I am used to huge games taking a bit, but not the smaller ones.

Nex Playground can recognize the players and their hands. The controller looks like a little small cylinder with a couple of buttons on them. Pressing in on the joystick will select the options. There is an on screen display to assist families in figuring out what buttons to use and when. The Internet setup was pretty easy to do. I ran into no control issues while playing the Nex Playground.

There is a little stand that can be used depending on how far off the ground the unit will be. For me the best thing about the Nex Playground is the motion controls. The Kinect was the best way to control for video games like Just Dance for example. Nex Playground has some games that are fun and easy to get into. If we can ever find the time and availability I would love to do a live stream showing off the Nex Playground.
