Paint

I know I am getting a little long in the tooth for some of the Black Friday 2023 purchases. I finally got around to watching Paint on Blu-ray. Boy was I way off. I am normally a fan of the work Owen Wilson does. Paint did not reach me. Paint did not entertain me. Honestly Paint felt completely pointless throughout the entire movie. Paint also feels like it is tone deaf and does not learn from the mistakes of the past.

There will be spoilers in my review of the Paint movie. Paint is about Carl Nargle. He is Vermont's #1 public television painter. He is shown at first as a complete and total prima donna. He can have whatever woman he wants whenever he wants her. There are plenty of sexual overtones and comments in Paint. Carl has this big afro and likes to smoke a pipe while painting on live television.

Carl is obsessed with this mountain in Paint. This mountain is called Mount Mansfield. This local art institute wants a painting of this mountain. Carl spends nineteen years making paintings of this mountain in hopes they will come to him and ask for one. Near the end Carl finally goes to the institute and asks. He is rejected. He was also rejected by a woman he loved when she cheated on him.

The issues families can have with Paint are sexual content, sexual deviancy, sex outside of marriage, war on men, drug use, and more. Carl gets stoned and accidently burns down his own barn with almost all of his paintings. He also had a hair cut that day and it was found in the ashes. He is presumed dead which means any of his paintings are now worth all kinds of money. He is actually still alive and got back together with the woman he loves.

The lack of logic in Paint is pretty bad. I totally forgot to mention how a younger female artist replaces him at the station and he winds up losing everything. The interesting thing is this younger female artist makes the same mistakes Carl did. She starts going through the same women he went through. I am not sure why anyone liked the younger artist because she is not as good as Carl.
