Star Trek #13

Star Trek #13 is the first part of the Glass and Bone storyline. There will be spoilers in this review. Captain Sisko starts out at Star Fleet headquarters where he is being commended for the wrap up of the last storyline. Now they are giving him another mission. He is to go to the Tzenkethi Coalition. Initially I thought this was the lizard man Captain Kirk fought. But those were the Gorn.

The Tzenkethi are a pre-warp civilization that uses giant stone ships and nuclear reactions to hurl their ships through space at light speed. Not warp speed. The Tzenkethi are bipedals that look like they have dinosaur heads. This is one of the main reasons I thought of the Gorn. The Tzenkethi are highly xenophobic according to Star Trek #13. A Starfleet agent is on the planet and Sisko must make contact with them.

Why is this even a mission that Captain Sisko is involved in? The Tzenkethi are amassing ships at the border and Starfleet is trying to stop another war. They had the Dominion War, this latest one with the Klingons and other races. They do not need to get attacked while they are rebuilding their forces. Plus they would like to get to know the Tzenkethi a bit better if they can.

The issues families can have with Star Trek #13 are bad language, false gods, references to violence, and more. Admiral Janeway makes an appearance. Captain Picard is referenced as a renegade in Star Trek #13. Harry Kim makes an appearance in Star Trek #13. The problem is Harry Kim is supposed to be watching Tom's child. As you can imagine Tom is not too happy about that.

Star Trek #13 contains a credits/recap page, then twenty-two pages of comic book content, one of the covers for next month, alternate covers, ads, and finally a covers checklist. We get those covers multiple times. There is also a page in Star Trek #13 containing the invitation to Captain Sisko, and a page from Starfleet Intelligence. Star Trek #13 does a good job starting off a new storyline.
