The Astonishing X-Men #1

I found The Astonishing X-Men #1 during one of our Nashville trips to McKays. This comic book initially sold for $1.95. It is actually in pretty good condition. I am not sure if I got a really good deal or if the market is that bad for comic books. The Astonishing X-Men #1 comes to us from March 1995. This is also the reboot of the X-Men with a brand new major universal storyline.

There will be spoilers in my review of the The Astonishing X-Men #1 comic book. Legion went back in time and killed Charles Xavier. Magneto leads the X-Men. Apocalypse is major ruler that kills humans by the tens of thousands. Apocalypse support mutants only in The Astonishing X-Men #1. We see a bit of Apocalypse as he is hunting down the mutants he sees as traitors.

The issues families can have with The Astonishing X-Men #1 are lack of attire, enticement to lust, violence, evolution and more. The art in The Astonishing X-Men #1 is what I like to call bubbly. The muscles are larger and more round. There are some interesting distinctive features given to different characters in The Astonishing X-Men #1. Advertisements can be found all throughout this comic book.

Characters were moved around in this interesting reboot. Some of them can still fight one another but they are now on the opposite sides. There is also a different costume given to a great many characters in The Astonishing X-Men #1. We learn about Rogue being married and it is not to Gambit. They have a past, but Rogue has a child with her husband. The Astonishing X-Men #1 really shook things up.

The Astonishing X-Men #1 is mainly a build up issue. We do not get a lot of action. Blink teleports in and is saved from the character chasing her and Sunfire. The portal is closed and this character is forced back. I was concerned they would get chopped in two since they were partially through the portal. It was nice to see the character was forced away instead in The Astonishing X-Men #1.
