The Grinch Christmas Adventures
SCORE: 79
I hope you were part of the festive live streams I performed of The
Grinch Christmas Adventures. This Christmas video games fleshes out the
book into a short video game experience. In just over three hours I
completely played the game, and watched the entire credits scene.
Outright Games is back to their really short video games. This is a real
shame since there are some fantastic ideas in The Grinch Christmas
Adventures.
We collect presents and puzzle pieces in The Grinch Christmas
Adventures. After we complete levels we use the puzzle pieces to put
together some puzzles. Once those puzzles are done then we earn some new
power up or clothing item. If you want the power ups faster then you
need to get more puzzle pieces. Levels can be replayed and players can
look around to try and find the missing puzzle pieces.
The Grinch Christmas Adventures does have some action adventure violence
in it. We get hit by multiple objects in the game. Players can also jump
on enemies to take them out. When players earn the snowball powerup they
can freeze the enemies in place for a short time. There are 2D side
scrolling levels and houses to go through in The Grinch Christmas
Adventures. The houses are more stealth like. Hiding is important in the
houses.
If you have two players one of them can control Max the dog. If you are
playing with just one player then you can swap between Max and The
Grinch. There are some runner levels where we must avoid something
trying to smash us while sledding or snowboarding down the icy mountain.
The final level is to try and return all of the presents on Santa's
sled. The Grinch Christmas Adventures is a short but fun experience.
The best part of The Grinch Christmas Adventures to me is the narrator.
He uses that tempo and tone explaining how to do things in the game just
like when reading the story book. This is very clever and fits the theme
of this game nicely. I like a lot of things about The Grinch Christmas
Adventures. I just wish it were a bit longer. Aside from the puzzle
pieces and the power ups there is little reason to replay the levels.
