X-Men '97 #1

I remember the X-Men animated show from the nineties in a rather fond light. I have not gone back and watched it though so it could have been worse than I remembered. I know the show is being brought back and there is all kinds of controversy and divisiveness being put into the show. At this point I am shocked whenever Hollyhate does not throw in that kind of content. I found myself curious to find out about this limited run comic book series.

There will be spoilers in this review of the X-Men '97 #1 comic book. There are thirty pages of comic book content within X-Men '97 #1. Advertisements can be found all throughout this comic book. The cost of the X-Men '97 #1 comic is $4.99. The art style in X-Men '97 #1 follows the animated show from the late nineties. There are references to false gods in at least one advertisement within this comic book.

The biggest issue families will have with X-Men '97 #1 is violence. There is a constant theme of the mutants being so mistreated in X-Men '97 #1. The Bullpen Bulletins is about Peach Momoko. The first page in X-Men '97 #1 is an intro and credits page. I did not know that Charles Xavier was presumed dead. It has been a long time since I last watched eh animated television show. We are talking like a decade.

Jean Grey is pregnant in X-Men '97 #1. I am not sure if Jean and Scott are married at this point. I did a little research and there are references to a wedding but that was in some comic books. I dug a little deeper and there was a wedding episode in the second season. So hopefully they are married at the point of when X-Men '97 #1 is based. The X-Men are known for all kinds of controversial content. I did not find much of it in this comic book.

Dazzler is kidnapped by humans and must be freed by the X-Men. There are agents of the government that are trying to make amends to the mutants in X-Men '97 #1. There are also agents that are working against the mutants. A whispered conversation lets the readers in on that little tidbit. X-Men '97 #1 is a good re-entry into the series. I hope the controversial content is kept out of this comic book series.
