Taito Legends 2

Taito has been in the video game industry for a very long time. Taito Legends 2 has over 35 different video games ranging in eras. There are a few gems in here, but many of them are historical accounts of what kinds of video games to not release. Taito has a lot of balance in this compilation ranging from puzzle games to shooting to violent to sports. Very few video game compilations that we have played here at Family Friendly Gaming have this kind of balance. The Playstation 2 version is being reviewed, but this game also appears on the Xbox, and Personal Computer. Each of the games included in Taito Legends 2 is arcade quality.

Some games in Taito Legends 2 look really bad. I can barely remember playing arcade games that look that bad. There are plenty of games with wonderful, and bright colors. There is unfortunately plenty of violence in many of the games found within Taito Legends 2. There is some disgusting blood, and gore in a few that really is not needed. Obviously Taito was following what morbid and macabre people want.

The sounds found within Taito Legends 2 depend upon the era the game came from. Some are merely bleeps and blops, whereas others have a little sizzle to them. I ran into some language issues in a few of the games, but really had to be looking for it.

Taito Legends 2 lets the player hit a button to simulate putting a coin in the arcade machine. That gives unlimited continues. This is great to see the entire game, but once a game is beaten there is little sense to replay it. This is balanced with thirty-five different games though. If you are looking for some video game history then Taito Legends 2 may be worth your money.

It took me awhile to get used to some of the controls found within Taito Legends 2. The first screen after picking a game explains the keys, but at the start screen I was having to try more than one key to get the game going. A little annoying, but something I was able to work with. Alpine ski is just as much fun now as it was then.

I personally enjoy taking a walk through video game history and seeing how far the industry has come. In some cases it shows how little progress the industry has made (violence, women used as sexual objects, etc.). There are some eastern religious themes in Taito Legends 2, along with incorrect understanding of the afterlife. A lot of violence, in fact too much for my tastes.
